PT Gunung Madu Plantations (GMP) has been implementing the ZPK application (ripener) on its sugarcane plantations. This activity aims to enhance the ripening process of sugarcane, resulting in increased yield. GMP initially started using third-party aircraft for the ZPK application around 2002. However, since 2020, the company has gradually transitioned to utilizing drones.

Agus Suhanto, a staff member of the Research and Development (R&D) department, has been appointed as the coordinator for the implementation of the ZPK application. He is responsible for preparing the ripener application plan, determining the take-off and landing process, deciding the sequence of locations and overseeing the volume of the solution.

The technical usage of drones for the ZPK application (ripener) differs from using aircraft. It involves ensuring proper spray program settings, adjusting the drone to achieve optimal spray results and calibrating the spray outcomes. The expertise of the drone pilots also plays a significant role in the ripener application process. Therefore, GMP continuously improves the competence of the drone pilots through training and certification in accordance with applicable requirements and regulations.
