IIn line with the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) pillar 3, which focuses on healthy and prosperous living, PT Gunung Madu Plantations (GMP) has implemented a home renovation program to transform 15 houses into livable homes in five villages surrounding the company’s area. Each village received three houses, namely Terbanggi Mulya, Terbanggi Ilir, and Mataram Udik in Bandar Mataram District; Bumi Nabung Ilir in Bumi Nabung District; and Mataram Ilir in Seputih Surabaya District.
The symbolic handover of house keys was conducted in three phases from August 26 to August 30, 2024, by the Operations Director of PT GMP, Mr. Jack Chong, and the Head of Services Department of PT GMP, Mr. Iwan Kurniawan, to the beneficiaries, witnessed by the heads of the respective villages: Mr. Suhariyanto, S.IP (Head of Terbanggi Ilir Village), Mr. Sarimin (Head of Terbanggi Mulya Village), Mr. Rudiyanto, S.Sos (Head of Mataram Udik Village), Mr. Raidi Imron (Head of Bumi Nabung Ilir Village), and Mr. Helmi Johan (Head of Mataram Ilir Village).
Mr. Muktadi, one of the beneficiaries, shared that he had been living cramped in a small house made of woven bamboo, which only had one bedroom and a kitchen. “So, before, we had to sleep together in one room,” he said, still carrying a Sundanese accent. Mr. Iwan, representing Mr. Jack and the GMP leadership in front of the audience, stated that this assistance is aimed at underprivileged families who previously did not have adequate housing, based on recommendations from the village heads. “We hope that this house can be occupied and well-maintained, and that it will be beneficial for your lives,” Mr. Iwan conveyed to the homeowners.
