On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, PT Gunung Madu Plantations (GMP) organized a corporate social responsibility training session on fish farming in buckets (budikdamber) and vertical cultivation in Terbanggi Ilir Village, Bandar Mataram District, Central Lampung. The event saw enthusiastic participation from the PKK members of Terbanggi Ilir Village who were eager to learn from Mr. Juli Nursandi, S.Pi, M.Pi, a lecturer from Polinela.

Egi Wira Gala, representing PT GMP, expressed hope that the training and provided program would economically benefit the participants by supporting the family food security program. Each participant received initial business capital, including one unit of budikdamber, catfish seeds (100 fish), 1 kg of pellet feed, and accessories.

Suharyanto, the Head of Terbanggi Ilir Village, thanked the management of Gunung Madu for their commitment to the community. He encouraged the participants to take the training seriously and to apply the knowledge in their daily lives. Suharyanto highlighted the potential of the training and assistance to help Terbanggi Ilir residents meet their nutritional needs by providing catfish and vegetables, such as water spinach, independently.

Juli Nursandi, the trainer for this event, explained that catfish farming combined with vegetable cultivation in buckets represents a simple form of aquaponics (polyculture of fish and vegetables). Unlike the usual aquaponic systems that require electricity, large land, high costs, and complex techniques, budikdamber offers a straightforward and low-capital alternative. This method is ideal for urban areas with limited space, as it does not require large ponds or extensive land.

Budikdamber utilizes the Yumina-Bumina technique, and this technique integrates fish and vegetable or fruit cultivation. Budikdamber uses a top flow system, one of the four systems in Yumina-Bumina cultivation, ensuring even nutrient distribution from cultivation waste to each plant through water distribution from above.

Overall, the training session aimed to empower the Terbanggi Ilir community with practical skills and resources to enhance their food security and economic well-being.
